We know we don’t have to tell you that plus size clothing is not a category that has historically been well represented in the haute couture space. And despite efforts to have their catwalks include size, many designers have not continued to expand their product offering. But that is changing (in part) today, with Tanya Taylor announcing that she is officially launching plus size clothing and we are proud to have played a role in expanding the size of her brand.
Taylor is breaking into the market for sizes over 14 with five pieces for the pre-fall, a movement first announced in the very pages of Charm. For our March issue, we asked the creator of CFDA to create a dress for Saturday Night Liveis Aidy Bryant. She would continue to wear the style – Taylor’s very first plus size piece of clothing – on Late night with Seth Meyers. This collaboration, however, prompted her to introduce more inclusive sizes into her namesake line in the future.
This inaugural plus size capsule features an embroidered cotton jacket, green floral maxi, pinstripe button-down shirt and off-the-shoulder print blouse, and navy floral mini, all of which feature the youthful and handmade prints that the creator is known for. Bryant had the first shot on the collection, wearing the 2017 prefall cropped hem dress on Today’s show earlier this week.
“Collaborate with Aidy Bryant and Charm on a red carpet look opened my eyes to a market that lacks feminine, flattering, upbeat clothes, “Taylor says.” Aidy and I are the same age, share a similar cheerful approach to life, and love color and the print. yet we have access to different clothes. Personally, I wanted to change that. “
Since the duo initially teamed up, Taylor has made at least one dress per month for the comedian, while simultaneously preparing to market the following. “We are an inclusive brand defined by a point of view—not a range of sizes, ”adds the designer. “And we are delighted to expand our collection in the future. “
Yes, you read that right: there are even more plus size Tanya Taylor clothing to come. In fact, the brand has confirmed that some looks from the Fall 2017, Pre-Spring 2018, and Spring 2018 collections will include size. Can’t wait until then? Shop the looks available below.
