SHE may be one of the most beloved actresses on the planet, but Melissa McCarthy couldn’t find a designer to dress her up for her 2011 Oscar nomination.
SHE may be one of the most beloved actresses on the planet right now, but Melissa McCarthy believes she still couldn’t find a designer to dress her up when she was nominated for an Oscar in 2011.
“There are two Oscars, I couldn’t find anyone to make a dress for me,” the actress said. Red book magazine in a new interview.
“I asked five or six designers,” she says. “Very high level people who make a lot of dresses for people, and they all said no.”
McCarthy said the rejection prompted her to design her own plus size clothing line, adding that the options for all of us who weren’t in size six were limited.
“When I’m shopping most of the time I’m disappointed,” she says.
McCarthy also opened up on why his nine-year marriage to actor Ben Falcone (he played the Air Marshal opposite his wife in those brilliant airplane scenes in Bridesmaids) works so well.
“Success doesn’t define us, even though we love what we do,” she said. “The important thing is our family and our children. “
The couple have two children – Vivian, six, and Georgette, three – and
McCarthy said they were keeping her down.
“[Vivian] asked me, ‘Are you famous?’ McCarthy said, adding that she told her daughter, “Famous doesn’t mean anything. Just because people know my face doesn’t mean they know us or it makes us more interesting or better.
McCarthy also said that she was happy not to be famous in her twenties.
“I see teenagers or 21-year-olds and I’m like, ‘I was dumb at that age,'” she said. “I was running around New York like crazy. Thank goodness I only had three and a half cents to my name. I was too immature to handle success back then.
