Kaavia James, Daughter of Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade, Launches Children’s Clothing Line

Only three years old Kaavia James Union-Wade isn’t just the daughter of celebrities, she’s a mini-influencer with nearly two million Instagram followers. Following the success of his family New York Times Bestseller, Shady babythe daughter of Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade has become a household name, with a particular eye for fashion.

“She’s obsessed with our closets…shoes and handbags. These are accessories in my closet and in Dwyane’s closet. She literally loves climbing her clothes racks,” Union says of her daughter, who has been a fashion fan “ever since she could walk.”

“I guess because of the pandemic, being a pandemic baby, most of her life was spent with us doing press and fittings and stuff in our house, so she’s been through it all and been great, great in it. She will feel the materials and want to understand how everything works,” she says.

Now the toddler is take her love of fashion to the next level, launching her first clothing collection in collaboration with her famous parents and children’s fashion brand Janie and Jack. Together, the fashionable family introduces fans to the Kaavia James Union-Wade x Janie and Jack Collectioninspired by Kaavia’s love of style, optimism and imagination, family and friendship.

Launching Wednesday, February 2, the bright and colorful collection features French terry silhouettes and pays homage to traditional African prints with eye-catching florals, ruffle and crochet detailing and screen-printed graphics, perfect for the spring season.

And for those wondering how involved the three-year-old was in the line’s design process, let’s just say the “Shady Baby” made sure her vision was clear.

“When we designed this line, people were like, ‘How does a child participate in the fashion process?’ But when we narrowed our ideas down between Janie and Jack’s design team and me and my husband, we showed [Kaavia] the French Terry [styles], we showed her the tri-level ruffles and prints. There were things we liked that she was like, ‘No.’ And we didn’t impose anything on him. If she didn’t like it, it was over,” Union says.

“It was a slow, organic process. We didn’t want to be forced into anything. We wanted to make sure it was completely collaborative and truly represented Kaavia. And that’s the case. And I’m thrilled with how the clothes turned out. I am delighted with the result of the campaign and this is her. It’s her,” she added.

“We’d like to think we’re on the other side of potty training mastery,” Union laughs. “You know, so we make sure that we make clothes that are fashionable and super cute, but also practical and functional. They have to be able to survive an accident or multiple washings. And we want people to be able to enjoy those outfits again. and again and not be like, ‘Oh, these are so special. I have to save them for a special occasion.'”
